Music is always changing. It changes because of the times and the technology that’s available, the material that things are made of, like plastic cars instead of steel. ― Miles Davis.
Jazz Futurism
The Miles Davis Festival has long included ambitious jazz and art programs associated with East St. Louis, Illinois. The Young Lions (Lincoln High School Alumni band where Miles began his trumpet playing career) presented weekly jam sessions at Grand Maria Golf Course). This was also a culinary delight as Miles Davis often made Bouillabaisse for himself, family, and special guests. The weekly jam sessions was the impetus of the grand performance with Russell Gun at the 12-hour event.
The Miles Davis Arts Festival is designed to celebrate Miles Davis’ birthday with straight ahead jazz and jazz futurism. Our focus is on established and up-and-coming musicians and artists who reflect and expand the genre.
